Meet the star performers of Khasi department

Part 1 of the two parts articles:

“People who teach others to read or to navigate, who don’t give up on slow or challenged students, will get the best seats in heaven. I don’t know a lot, but I know this to be true.”

-Anne Lamott (Author of Stitches: a handbook of meaning, hope and repair)

Ristilin Rani

Coming from a humble family background of Tyrsad village, East khasi hills district, Ristilin had performed brilliantly, securing 2nd position in the university. For Ristilin the fabulous teachers of Khasi department are the reason for her success. Speaking to us she shares:

“With the points I gathered from classroom lectures I framed my answers with strict adherence to 30 minutes per 15 marks. My exam strategy is to answer all questions, and for that, time management is the key. So recalling the relevant points that our teachers discussed in classroom and structuring good but not so lengthy answers is important.”

Ristilin stressed on the role that ‘iatei club’ plays on her education. She used to actively participate in the activities of the club. Her participation has molded her personality from being a shy and naive fresher to a confident, insightful and humble student.

Her parents are farmers and are supporting her education. But for Ristilin, who is the eldest sister in the family, work is a virtue. Whenever she gets the opportunity she takes odd job as domestic worker to lighten the burden of her family with the wage she got.

With her hobby being reading novel, she is so taken in by the writings of W. Tiewsoh.

Word of advice from her: “To perform well, it is up to how we study. Iatei club has great activities like debate, poetry writing, essay writing. These activities are indispensible part of our education at Sankardev. I implore all Khasi honours students to actively participate in the activities of iatei club”

We wish her all success as she joins her M.A in NEHU and in all her future endeavors.

Glossylyne Marbaniang

Ristilin’s friend, Glossylyne Marbaniang, is expecting to join M.A. in NEHU too. She secured a brilliant 1st class.

Hailing from Sadew she is the eldest sister in the family. She is a hard worker and like her friends, she used to participate actively in iatei club which has been instrumental in making her grow intellectually and in personality. Parallel to her B.A studies she had joined a music class and received a diploma in tonic solfa.

Speaking to her, we realized how inspired and driven she is. When it comes to future planning, there seems to be nothing in her mind but teaching.

When asked about the advice to her juniors, this is what she has to say: “All of you students, be regular to class”…

She went on and added, “Respect time”. Now this advice is a deceptively simple and yet profound proposition. We see a teacher in the making in her.
